UK centres of excellence confirmed

Campden BRI, Reaseheath Food Centre and Poultec Training have become the first food and drink manufacturing training centres to gain formal industry approval as ‘centres of excellence’ in the UK.
The trio were confirmed by business representatives on the sector’s Industry Skills Taskforce – the executive group of the business led Industry Skills Partnership run by industry skills body the National Skills Academy for Food & Drink.
Academy CEO, Justine Fosh, says, “New industry approved status marks out training provision of the highest quality and represents the first fruit of Skills Partnership and Skills Academy efforts to make it as easy as possible for sector firms to find leading edge skill and vocational education provision recognised by the industry as a whole.
“It also raises the bar in terms of levels of industry knowledge and expertise required to pass quality thresholds. From now on, only training providers that have gained industry approval as centres of excellence or industry specialists will be eligible to become members of the Skills Academy’s training networks – and that industry approval will be for specific named areas of recognised excellence.”
Campden BRI gained industry approval as a centre of excellence for food science as well as endorsement as an industry specialist in bakery. The Reaseheath Food Centre in Cheshire was designated as industry approved as a centre of excellence for dairy, while Norfolk based Poultec Training was confirmed as a centre of excellence in food operations.
In addition to the centres of excellence, the University of Chester’s Institute of Food Science and Innovation has received approval as an industry specialist in food science, while the University of Bradford’s School of Management and Fairstead Development were approved as industry specialists in leadership and management. Festo Training and Consulting received approval as an industry specialist in leadership and management and engineering.
