Boozy Mr Whippy in a town near you
It’s the hottest day of the year today (19 July) in the UK, so thoughts turn – naturally – to the likes of ice cream and beer gardens.
UK hotel group Warner Leisure Hotels is effectively combining the two with its recently unveiled Ice Cream Bar, an adult only ice cream van (complete with its own bouncer to check IDs), which is travelling around the country this summer to serve up alcohol infused ice creams and sorbets to adults – for free.
Created by New Forest Ice Cream, the menu includes:
- IcePA – beer flavoured Mr Whippy poured out of a classic bar pump into a pork scratching cone (pictured below)
- The Jäger Bombe – a grown up twist on the classic ice cream bombe sees Jäger ice cream surrounded by energy drink flavoured ice cream
- Bacon and Bourbon – bacon flavoured ice cream with a crispy bacon garnish and a shot of bourbon to chase
- Vodka Martini – vodka sorbet with olive flavoured hundreds and thousands
- Tequila Sorbet – tequila sorbet served in a martini glass with a rim of salt.
Mat Finch, marketing director at Warner Leisure Hotels, says, “People have been queuing up to try the adult friendly flavours. You may think Jäger is a ‘young’ drink, but our Bombes were devoured within minutes.
“We can’t wait to visit the rest of the hotels and give the country a gloriously grown up summer.”
This is music to my ears, and I would particularly like to get my hands on the Vodka Martini, but the van’s location is kept under wraps until revealed by the company on Twitter. The public can look out for the hashtag #GrownUpIceCream to keep up with its current location.
And for anyone in Nottingham on this sunny day, the bar on wheels will be serving up its boozy ice cream at Thoresby Hall from 3pm today – you lucky people!
