SOFHT announces 2017 Awards

The nomination categories have been announced for the annual Society of Food Hygiene and Technology (SOFHT) Awards, with winners to be presented at the society’s annual luncheon in November.

The popularity of the SOFHT luncheon, now in its 38th year, as a networking event means that the society has moved to a larger venue at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in London, UK.

The SOFHT awards recognise and celebrate excellence in food safety and hygiene within the food and associated industries and are judged by a panel of experienced food industry professionals from the society’s membership.

This year the SOFHT lecture will be delivered by Stefan Gates, BBC presenter and author of ‘Gastronaut: Extraordinary adventures in food science’.

Su Werran, operations director at SOFHT, comments, “This won’t be any ordinary lecture. Gates wants the British to care more about their food, and he does this by creating spectacular, explosive and unforgettable science stage shows that explore the secrets and complex science behind it. This kind of live stage show is perfect for the audience numbers we now have at the SOFHT luncheons and we are all looking forward to seeing what Gates has up his sleeve.”

Entry to the SOFHT awards is free and nominations are welcome from all disciplines within the food industry and its suppliers. Entrants must be SOFHT members based in the UK or internationally and can either nominate themselves or be nominated by a person or company (employees of a business sponsoring an award will not be permitted to apply for the award they sponsor).

Categories for 2017 are as follows:

  • Best Trainer
  • Company of the Year
  • Best Training Company
  • Best Auditor/Technologist
  • Best New Product & Service
