Turkey is best of British

Bernard Matthews Food Service has won Best Catering Product for its latest idea for school meals. The company’s British Turkey Breast Steak met with high praise from the independent panel for judges at the 2006 British Turkey Awards, The ‘top quality’ product was considered an extremely useful choice for caterers.

The British Turkey Steak is a 60g natural steak delivering a superb flavour and texture, containing less than 3g of fat per 100g and having under 400mg of sodium per 100g, complying fully with healthy eating initiatives.

Loxtons slow cooked Turkey Roulade with Caramelised Onion, Apple & Chestnut stuffing, Roast Gravy & Pigs in Blankets and St. Nick’s Supper also fared well on the menu.

Andrew Lewins, vice chairman, British Turkey Sector Group, highlighted industry concerns over the effect cheap imports are having on the domestic market, predicting that the environmental issue would force changes to sourcing strategies.
