A nudge in the right direction?

Nudging, it seems, is the new buzzword when it comes to encouraging consumers to make informed (for informed, read 'healthy') choices regarding diet and lifestyle. Apparently, we're all going to be 'nudged' into making the right food and drink decisions without necessarily being aware of it.
Nudging is defined as, ‘altering people's environments to prompt healthier behaviour, without using bans or economic incentives to achieve changes’. But seeing as Britain is now the most obese nation in Europe - a statistic blamed on array of factors, from socio-economic to marketing – making a real impact is nothing short of a mountainous task (forgive the pun!) I'm just not sure that a nudge is ever going to be enough to move a mountain...
