A costly Geneva convention

Date: 12/05/2011

When it comes to shows, Vitafoods has long been a favourite of mine – both from a professional and personal point of view. And this year’s event was no exception, with a notably impressive amount of continued research into proven ingredients, which undoubtedly helps in the battle for consumer awareness, while keeping the market buoyant.

Many (but not all) exhibitors reported decent business over the three days. And it’s just as well, for the proceeds no doubt helped fund some extortionate hotel bills for the duration of the show (one firm bemoaned a bill of more than £1,000/€1,150 for three nights’ accommodation and the cost of drinks – £6/€7 for a cola).

Sure, Palexpo is a great venue with fantastic transport links. But with such additional expenses both for exhibitors and visitors, I fear for the future growth of the show if it remains in Switzerland. That said, next year’s dates have already been announced.

Oh well, at least we’ve all got time to start saving…
