Cereal offenders

Date: 13/08/2010

Kellogg’s has announced that it is to cut the sugar in its Coco Pops cereal by 15% – largely as a result of parental pressure. Of course there are those moaning that 15% is nowhere near enough, but – in defence of Kellogg’s, and despite it’s highly targeted ‘pester power’ ad campaigns – if mums and dads don’t like it, then they shouldn’t buy the stuff in the first place.
Let’s face it – even if the sugar and salt content of such cereals were to be reduced to zero, there will still be healthier, less expensive breakfast options. Just as there will also always be certain parents who are happy for their kids to play computer games for most of the summer holidays – never setting foot outdoors nor getting within spitting distance of a healthy, well-balanced meal – yet be quick to moan about so-called unhealthy products. When it comes to childhood obesity, surely they’re the real cereal offenders…
