Flying the flag for Food & Drink Technology

Date: 17/11/2010

Just back from a brief but packed visit to HiE in Madrid. I gather it was somewhat smaller than in previous years, and I heard a few complaints that many journalists had, for various reasons, decided to give the show a miss. But not this one!

There can’t have been many of you who didn’t get to see me on Tuesday, and what a pleasure it was. I saw some amazing new innovations, many of which had been shortlisted for the awards – and deservedly so. I also downed the first-ever effervescent omega-3 drink (the result of an amazing R&D feat), was given the heads-up on some quite incredible new research which may well see omega-3 becoming a vital part of the sports nutrition market (alas, I can say no more at this stage) and joined Mintel for some fascinating revelations regarding the satiety and weight management market.

I was also thrilled to speak to several American companies actively seeking to expand into the UK and European markets, and finally meet one of my long-term contacts with whom I’d only ever conversed via email – which isn’t surprising seeing as I’m based in the UK, and she’s in Israel. Liat, it was great to see you!

So a big thank you to you all for taking the time to chat to me – and do look out for the full show review in the next issue of the mag.
