Happy New Year (I think!)

Date: 07/01/2011

I’ve finally emerged from under a pile of Christmas wrapping paper, discarded party poppers and empty sherry bottles to wish you all a Happy New Year. Hope everyone had a great one and, like me, you’re enjoying the anticipation that a brand new year always brings. Okay, so we’ve already had our first food scare of the year, following news that poultry feed contaminated by toxic dioxins has somehow been sent to more than 1,000 poultry and pig farms in Germany. But, apparently, the risk to human health is low. So let’s try not to dwell on that and think positive thoughts for 2011. Sure, VAT has just gone up. Oh, and so too have rail fares. Come to think of it, mortgage rates are about to be hiked too. Hmmm. Not sure this is going too well. Ahh… I’ve got it – some really good news for 2011. We’re all on January diets, right? Well, all that belt-tightening the government is warning us to expect is going to be a cinch. Literally.
