Having a Ball in Barnes

Just back from a trek to darkest Teddington to see the laboratory analysis experts at LGC. And very nice they were too. As was Teddington, if you ignore the rather pungent aroma wafting from the stables (not to mention the worryingly frothy puddles seeping through onto the pavement) just a stone’s throw from the LGC premises. Did well to resist the urge to leap off the train at Barnes while en route to Teddington though. Why Barnes? I hear you cry. Well, dear reader, that is where West End superstar and all-round good guy Michael Ball resides. And to say I‘m a fan would be an understatement. In fact, now that the restraining order has finally been lifted, I’m sure he would have been thrilled to see me. Trouble is, it’s going to be so hard to fit him in, as my diary is as full as Simon Cowell’s wallet. Tomorrow, I’m tripping off to Campden BRI’s Nutfield site to see brewing queen Dr Caroline Walker to talk malt and microbiology....
