Kids... who'd have 'em!

Date: 13/04/2011

As the Easter holiday rumbles on, my boys are this week safely ensconced with their grandparents.

But readers, I don’t want you to feel too bad about the fact that my mum and dad have been lumbered with my offspring in order that I may produce the next issue of Food & Drink Technology for your delight and delectation. For the fact of the matter is, they are proving to be an endless source of amusement for nanny and grandad.

Take Ben, for example, who, when being cajoled into eating a bowl of porridge by his grandad on the basis that it was ‘real man’s food’, replied in a flash: “Well how come Goldilocks eats it, then?”

I, too, have been on the receiving end of my four-year-old’s quick wit. Recently, while watching me carefully apply moisturiser to my face, he asked what it was for. “To make mummy look young and beautiful,” I replied.

He moved a step closer, looked long and hard at me, and said in his sweetest voice: “You’d better put some more on then.”

Charming.
