Life is a rollercoaster

Question: What have Mickey Mouse, green tea and barbecue marinades all got in common? Answer: They’ve all featured rather prominently in my life these past few days.

Mickey first. I was lucky enough to bag a press trip to the world's most famous rodent’s Disneyland home last weekend. The downside was, I had to take my nine-year-old son (only joking, Joe!) We had the most amazing – if exhausting – time.

So my trip to the Natural & Organic products show less than 12 hours after arriving home felt somewhat ill-timed. However, it also meant that I was ripe for sampling an array of products that promised to pep me up, perk me up and, as one exhibitor declared, would have me ‘flying’ home. Thankfully, he was touting nothing more illegal than super-potent green tea (more of that in the next issue) but his promise of aerial assistance failed to materialise, and I was forced to resort to that more traditional mode of transport – a good old South Eastern train.

On Thursday, I was off out again – this time to McCormick’s UK Technical Innovation Centre in Buckinghamshire. Thankfully, the flavour experts arranged for the sun to shine – which was handy seeing as I was there to help devise a new BBQ marinade (again, you can read more about this in the May issue). Sadly, however, my team’s banana and black pepper concoction didn’t quite make the grade. Ah well, back to the day job…
