N-ice work, BFFF

Date: 10/08/2011

I had a Narnia-esque experience this week, courtesy of the British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF) and its ‘pop-up’ restaurant N-Ice.

Billed as the world’s first gourmet frozen food restaurant, members of the public were invited to sample a range of dishes cooked using the finest freshly frozen ingredients in a dining room transformed into a winter wonderland for the week-long event.

The concept was part of the BFFF’s ongoing mission to convince the masses that not only is frozen food as good as fresh, in many cases it’s better.

In these times of economic hardship, it’s a message that has got through to many, as they realise that frozen means improved portion control and no wastage. Yet there are still certain socio-economic groups who, while failing to achieve the recommended ‘five-a-day’ are also doubtful of the merits of frozen food.

Had they had the benefit of a visit to N-Ice, however, I can’t help feeling they wouldn’t have eaten their way to a new outlook – and would no longer be giving frozen food such a chilly reception.
