Taking chances

Date: 17/02/2011

Had an interesting lunch this week (and one I struggled valiantly to hold on to during a white-knuckle ride back in the boss’s super-fast car).

Our dining companion is in the business of organising trade shows with, it has to be said, an excellent track record in his chosen field. And, like all good businessmen, he’s always on the lookout for a new opportunity; a new challenge; a new UK-based food-related show perhaps…

But does there ever come a time where possible financial losses mean a venture should not be pursued? Logic would suggest so. But if that were the case in reality, many of today’s inventions and innovations would never have seen the light of day.

So it would appear that in order to succeed in life, risks sometimes need to be taken. And that means the question shouldn’t necessarily be ‘can I afford to push ahead with a plan?’ but ‘can I afford not to?’

As for that show… watch this space.
