Water or wine?

Date: 21/04/2011

Was amused to read that, among the latest batch of EFSA evaluations on ‘general function’ health claims, was a dismissal of a claimed effect for water. That being, that it is a ‘basic requirement of all living things’. The claim went on to say: ‘Without water, biological processes necessary to life would cease in a matter of days’.

Now I don’t know about you, but I find it pretty hard to dispute either statement. But then I’m not EFSA, who believe that ‘the claimed effect is not sufficiently defined’. However, I will draw some comfort from the judgement, as it means if it’s not the two litres of water I glug every day that’s keeping me going, then it must be the wine!
