“I’m very philosophical and spiritual”

Sam Benjamin began his career as a trainee chef at Addo Food Group’s Riverside Bakery before being promoted to retail account manager. Now brand manager of the Too Good To Be… range of gluten-free sweet and savoury pastry products, formerly known as No.G, his potential in the industry saw him scoop the Rising Star accolade at the 2016 Food and Drink Federation Awards.

Describe yourself in three words:

Confident, energetic, leader.

What’s your biggest professional achievement?

For me it has to be winning the Food and Drink Federation Rising Star award in 2016.

How did you get to where you are today?

Early mornings and late nights.

What does a typical day look like for you?

Every day is different, which is why I love my job. It can be anything from reviewing social media campaigns to NPD meetings and account meetings, but whatever is happening it’s always full on.

What have been the highlights of your company’s history, in your opinion?

Launching the free from brand No.G, which we rebranded to become Too Good to Be… last year.

What is your pet hate?

Rudeness; manners don’t cost anything.

Give us a positive prediction for the food industry over the next 12 months.

The current trend of wellbeing will continue to develop and force industries to change practices and make more sustainable products for the future.

What do you consider to be the most important attributes for a leader?

A willingness to take risks, logical decision making, personable approach, strategic and future focused.

Who do you most admire?

My mother.

Heck, Naked and Pure Foods.

Something creative, interior design maybe.

Better weather.

I rarely relax but when I do I listen to music.
