Fi Europe bound

I am flying to Frankfurt, Germany today (28 November) for the Fi Europe exhibition, which is running 28-30 November at Messe Frankfurt.

With four halls spanning 65,000 square metres of exhibition space, I’m looking forward to visiting as many of the 1,500+ suppliers in attendance with their food and beverage ingredient solutions as I can.

A show preview in the November issue of Food & Drink Technology gives a flavour of the innovations to be seen, including deZaan D11BK, the first ever nib alkalised, black cocoa powder from Olam Cocoa, which promises both an intense cocoa flavour and very dark colour without added sodium; and IOI Loders Croklaan’s Creamelt 600 LS, a chocolate filling fat that reduces saturated fatty acid content by 30 per cent while promising excellent texture stability and a superior cool-melting effect. The show is also cause for celebration, with Beneo celebrating its 10-year anniversary, having originally launched at Fi Europe 2007 in London, UK; and SVZ marking 150 years of expertise. It’s also the first outing for Orchard Valley Foods Group, following the recent merger of Orchard Valley Foods and Candeco Confektyr.

A highlight of the supporting programme will be the announcement of the winners of the Innovation Awards tonight (28 November). Categories including the Performance Nutrition Innovation Award, Reduction & Reformulation Innovation Award and Clean Label & Natural Innovation Awards feature entries from the likes of DSM, Arla Foods Ingredients, Corbion and Ingredion. You can read a full list of finalists here.

As in previous years, the New Product Zone – organised in association with Innova Market Insights – will showcase product innovations. Always a popular fixture, it provides the perfect opportunity to give new ingredients the introduction to the market they deserve.

If you’re at the exhibition, please visit the Bell Publishing team on stand S24 in hall 8, where we will be present with our sister publications Confectionery Production, Dairy Industries International and Tea & Coffee Trade Journal. If you’re not attending, please follow our Twitter and news feeds for live updates from the show. There will also be a review in the December/January issue of Food & Drink Technology.
