Carlsberg snaps up ‘world premier’ packaging solution
Carlsberg has unveiled what it’s calling a ‘world premier’ sustainable packaging solution.
The Snap Pack allows Carlsberg cans to be glued together in a multipack instead of using shrink-wrapping, hi-cone rings or other secondary packaging solutions. The innovation, invented by KHS subsidiary NMP Systems and developed together with Carlsberg over the past three years, claims to reduce plastic use by more than 70 per cent.
“Carlsberg’s Snap Pack will significantly reduce plastic waste and we look forward to offering consumers a better beer experience with less environmental impact,” says Cees ‘t Hart, CEO of the Carlsberg Group.
The brewery group estimates that by dispensing with shrink-wrapping in its can packs, up to 76 per cent of plastic can be saved – which will amount to more than 1,200 tons per year when fully rolled out.
“Today, good brewing also means protecting the climate, nature and the environment,” adds Simon Boas Hoffmeyer, sustainability director at Carlsberg Group.
