Solids handling equipment maker, Ajax Equipment, has worked with leading UK-based engineering and project management company, Allied Protek, to supply one of the world’s foremost food product manufacturers with an ATEX certified stainless steel inclined screw conveyor to enhance the handling of corn grit and ensure high standards of cleanability.

Ajax Equipment worked with Allied Protek to supply a screw conveyor which would provide a reliable transfer of material within tight space constraints when site was reconfiguring plant layout.

The Ajax screw delivers perfect handling performance even when elevating up an incline by using a special profile of casing without compromising on ease-of-use and ensuring easy, safe access during cleaning operations. Hinged covers specially configured for the plant layout as well as to suit the special casing profile were incorporated by Ajax.

“Ajax Equipment were great to work with, their team always provides a professional and responsive service from start to finish,” commented Greg Hughes, engineering manager, Allied Protek Engineering Solutions. “Ajax’s collaborative approach to this project ensured the production of a high quality, bespoke conveying solution which has enabled our customer to reliably transfer food within the tight space available. I highly recommend them to anyone whose application depends on achieving a consistent high standard of material handling or processing.”

“Existing plant layouts can be awkward to work around, especially when tasked with rectifying or adding process steps. Although screw conveyors are positive transfer devices, the inclines required to fit in within the available space can make moving materials a challenge. Ajax’s know-how, however, ensures each conveyor’s screw and casing work together to generate efficient and effective elevation,” commented, Lewis Shaw, senior technical sales engineer, Ajax Equipment.
