GroceryAid launches Covid-19 Fund for UK grocery colleagues

GroceryAid has been supporting colleagues through crises in the food and drink industry for over 160 years and has now launched the GroceryAid Covid-19 fund to provide enhanced support during this unprecedented period. GroceryAid has raised a fund of £1.5 million to ensure support will reach grocery colleagues who need it.

“Amid the huge challenge of Covid-19 our trade has done a great job of keeping the nation fed. GroceryAid has raised a special Covid-19 fund to help our industry colleagues at this time of need. The 24/7 Helpline will deal with concerns and assist with financial stress caused by this terrible virus” said Charles Wilson, GroceryAid’s president.

Steve Barnes, GroceryAid’s CEO, also commented: “Our industry has been tested like never before and colleagues have risen to the challenge. We are proud that this fund enables us to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with those who now need help as a direct consequence of Covid-19.”

Mental Health Support

GroceryAid offers ‘in the moment’ emotional and practical support for grocery colleagues dealing with shock, anxiety and stress through BACP trained counsellors, a Health & Wellbeing portal and Woebot, GroceryAid’s AI Robot app. This support is available to all grocery colleagues from day one of working in the industry.

Bereavement Financial Assistance

GroceryAid provides financial assistance for the loss of a loved one through Covid-19. This is available to grocery colleagues who lose a partner or the immediate family of a colleague who has passed away as a result of Covid-19 whilst working in the industry.

Crisis Grants

Grants are available for grocery colleagues that face unexpected financial emergencies due to Covid-19. Crisis grants are accessible to colleagues with a year’s industry service and are non-repayable.

GroceryAid urges colleagues to get in touch via its 24/7 Helpline if they want support with challenges caused by Covid-19.

“In the current Covid-19 crisis we know that colleagues throughout our sector are being impacted emotionally and financially. GroceryAid is proud to have launched the Covid-19 Fund to help those affected through our 24/7 Helpline and financial grants programmes in these unprecedented times” said Mandi Leonard, GroceryAid’s welfare director.
