Plant-based business THIS sees supermarket revenue double during Covid-19

THIS has seen an increase in demand during the Covid-19 period to date, resulting in its supermarket revenue doubling from February to March, following households eating more meals. Due to consumer demand, the business is also exploring a direct to consumer (DTC) offering.
Since launching in June last year, the London-based plant-based meat company has sold over 3 million portions of its products.
Growing at a compound rate of 35% month-on-month, the plant-based meat company is one of the fastest growing food businesses in the UK.
The rise in foodservice and retail has seen them place their products in over 1200 outlets across the UK, including national listings with select Waitrose, Co-op Food stores, Holland & Barrett and Ocado, as well as restaurant partners including Honest Burger, Coco Di Mama and many more.
Despite vegan and plant-based foods feeling the impact of panic-buying, with photos on social media showing items left behind on shelves, it’s not the case for all products.
Andy Shovel, co-founder of THIS stated: “Ain’t no pandemic going to keep THIS down.”
To support those in need of food during these uncertain times, last month THIS teamed up with City Harvest and Made in Hackney to donate over a tonne of THIS Isn’t Chicken, for use in meals for those who need them. .
2020 will see further announcements for the business, including new product formats and retail listings.
