Lecta, a company specialising in the design and development of paper-based solutions for flexible packaging, is expanding its flagship Metalvac range with Metalvac Seal Oxygen Barrier— a new metallised barrier paper that meets the current industry demands for technical performance, industrial efficiency, and sustainability.

The Metalvac range offers various paper grades with heat-sealability and light, water vapour, oxygen, and aroma barriers, as well as resistance to moisture and grease (PFAS-free). The metallised papers stand out for their excellent runnability and adaptability to standard packing lines on the market, according to the company.

Its low aluminium content (0.08 gsm) ensures high barrier performance without compromising the material’s recyclability within the standard paper recycling stream.

Metalvac Seal Oxygen Barrier is a barrier paper, intended as a more sustainable alternative to existing plastic, foil, and laminate solutions used for packaging food products such as snacks; sweet and chocolate confectionery; coffee, tea, and infusions; spices and seasonings; ingredients and other powdered products; pet food, and more.

This new barrier paper is available in weights of 83 and 93 gsm and can be printed — in offset, flexography, and rotogravure — on its coated side, while its high-vacuum metallised backside is heat-sealable.

It offers excellent barrier properties (both flat and folded) against water vapor (WVTR), oxygen (OTR), aroma, mineral oils (MOSH/MOAH), and grease (PFAS-free), while also ensuring very good performance on horizontal and vertical form-fill-seal machines (HFFS/VFFS), as well as optimal conversion into common flexible packaging formats such as sachets, flowpacks, doypacks, and more.

Metalvac Seal Oxygen Barrier is recyclable within the standard paper and cardboard recycling stream, in accordance with CEPI V2 recyclability standards. This new metallised barrier paper also aligns with circular economy principles and represents an efficient, more sustainable alternative for multiple flexible packaging applications.

The entire Metalvac range is produced following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Food Safety (FSSC 22000) standards, essential for the food sector, in compliance with environmental management standards ISO 14001 and EMAS, energy efficiency ISO 50001, quality ISO 9001, and occupational health and safety ISO 45001. Additionally, it is available upon request with PEFC or FSC® C011032 Chain of Custody forest certifications.
