SÜDPACK cuts carbon footprint by 24%

SÜDPACK, the high-performance film and packaging specialist, has published its 2025 Progress Report, demonstrating accelerated momentum toward its climate and circular economy goals.
The family-owned company highlighted a 24% reduction in its corporate carbon footprint between 2021 and 2024 and secured the prestigious Platinum status in the EcoVadis sustainability rating.
The report showcases SÜDPACK’s focus on three core areas: circular economy, climate protection, and social responsibility, framing sustainability as a key driver of growth.
SÜDPACK’s ZERO WASTE strategy is delivering results, with waste volumes reduced by a further 8% in the reporting period. The company continues to recycle production-related plastic waste in-house and directs external plastic fractions towards chemical recycling wherever viable.
A cornerstone of SÜDPACK’s product development is Design for Recycling, ensuring that products balance maximum protection with minimal material use and high recyclability. Innovations highlighted in the report include the CarbonLite family of recyclable PP- and PE-based tubular pouch films, as well as the Peel PET floatable top webs.
“Sustainability means keeping valuable raw materials and material structures in the loop. What we produce today must not become waste tomorrow,” emphasised Carolin Grimbacher, managing partner at SÜDPACK.
SÜDPACK confirmed that its climate targets were validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in April 2024, cementing its commitment to the 1.5∘C warming limit.
The company’s strong focus on renewable energy underpins its decarbonisation effort:
- 88% of all electricity consumed across the group now comes from renewable sources.
- 53% of the group’s total energy consumption is from renewables.
- Total energy consumption decreased by 17% between 2021 and 2024, and the company is preparing to install additional photovoltaic arrays at its German sites.
SÜDPACK’s commitment to diligence and transparency was recognised with the attainment of Platinum EcoVadis status, reflecting a 30% improvement in its own performance compared to 2023. The company also reported that over 90% of its assessed partners and suppliers have achieved at least 45 points in the EcoVadis rating, demonstrating a commitment to responsible practices across the entire supply chain. This effort led to a 50% increase in SÜDPACK’s “Sustainable Procurement” score over the same period.
