James White Drinks, the Suffolk-based premium juice producer, is expanding its footprint in the functional beverage category with the launch of a new ambient range debuting in Waitrose this month.

As consumers move away from niche supplements toward “food-as-medicine,” James White Drinks is positioning its new 100% juice range as a bridge between high-quality craft juice and daily health maintenance. The line-up launches with two core SKUs:

  1. Vitalise (a green blend featuring B12 to combat fatigue)
  2. Immunity (an apple and ginger blend rich in Vitamin C).

By opting for an ambient format rather than chilled, James White is addressing supply chain efficiencies and retail versatility. For the retailer, this reduces the pressure on high-cost chilled shelf space while offering consumers a longer-lasting pantry staple. The range will sit alongside the brand’s established “Beet It” and “Veg It” lines, reinforcing a dedicated functional destination within the ambient aisle.

The launch taps into the burgeoning UK functional drinks market, which has seen a shift from intense energy boosters to “gentle support” products. With no added sugar and vegan-friendly credentials, the range aligns with the Clean Label trend, where shoppers demand transparency and recognisable ingredients over synthetic additives.

“The functional drinks market is continuing to gain traction in the UK, and strong growth is coming from the chilled soft drinks space, with shoppers looking for flavours they can enjoy with gentle support they can trust,” says Lawrence Mallinson, founder of James White Drinks. “Our new ambient range will cater to these shoppers who are more conscious of their health, providing greater convenience as a drink that easily fits into their daily routine.”

Trade analysts suggest that the £3.30 RRP per litre positions the brand competitively against premium chilled juices while offering the added value of specific health claims.
