Bruichladdich-Whitebox partnership brings RTD cocktails to market

Celebrated Islay distillery Bruichladdich has announced a landmark collaboration with craft canning specialists Whitebox Cocktails to launch a new, premium range of ready-to-drink (RTD) canned cocktails.
The strategic partnership marks Bruichladdich’s formal entry into the rapidly expanding convenience sector. By combining the distillery’s high-character spirits — including its heavily peated single malts and The Botanist Islay Dry Gin — with Whitebox’s specialised expertise, the duo aims to redefine expectations for the upscale canned cocktail market.
Elevating the cocktail experience
First, the new collection moves away from the low-alcohol, high-sugar profile that traditionally dominated the single-serve canned market. Instead, the collaboration delivers full-strength, bar-quality serves in distinctively small, single-portion cans designed to preserve carbonation and flavour aromatics.
Furthermore, the packaging deliberately echoes the striking, minimalist branding of Whitebox’s existing portfolio. The design aims to achieve immediate shelf standout in both premium grocery aisles and specialist independent bottle shops.
Why Bruichladdich is entering the RTD sector
For Bruichladdich, this launch is driven by a clear shift in global consumer behaviour. The ultra-premium single malt and craft gin categories are facing changing drinking habits, as modern consumers increasingly seek out high-end, premium experiences outside of traditional pub and cocktail bar settings.
Ultimately, the distillery is looking to achieve two critical commercial goals:
- Capture the premium convenience trend: consumers are showing a strong willingness to pay a premium for convenience, provided the quality matches a hand-poured bar serve.
- Democratise single malt consumption: Highball and Mule formats lower the barrier to entry for peated and unpeated Islay whiskies, introducing Bruichladdich’s complex flavour profiles to a much broader, younger demographic without alienating traditional spirits enthusiasts.
Capitalising on a market shift
Additionally, the timing of the launch aligns perfectly with broader industry data. While the entry-level hard seltzer market has cooled, the appetite for spirit-forward, premium spirit RTDs is experiencing significant global volume growth.
“By bringing Bruichladdich and The Botanist into a single-serve format engineered by Whitebox, full-strength, complex drinks can thrive in a canned format.
The new premium Bruichladdich and Whitebox canned cocktail collection is rolling out across independent retail channels, specialist off-trade stockists, and premium e-commerce platforms now.
