Historic Italian liqueur producer Luxardo has officially rolled out a striking packaging redesign for its premium Limoncello.

Dropping just in time for the peak of the summer spritz season, the brand has retired its traditional frosted bottle in favour of a sleek, vertically fluted glass structure.

While the all-natural liquid inside remains completely unchanged, the structural transformation represents a significant step forward for the brand. Consequently, the redesign directly blends high-end luxury aesthetics with modern environmental responsibility.

The decision to overhaul the packaging structure stems from a dual ambition to modernise the brand’s shelf presence while dramatically improving its supply chain sustainability.

Luxardo is looking to achieve three core manufacturing and commercial objectives:

  1. Eliminate energy-intensive chemical frosting: the previous frosted glass aesthetic required a chemical-heavy and high-emission finishing process. Removing this step simplifies glass production and significantly shrinks the bottle’s manufacturing carbon footprint.
  2. Optimise structural glass integrity: the new vertically reeded glass design adds structural strength. This allows for an optimised weight configuration that reduces raw material usage while making the bottles more durable during transport.
  3. Accelerate production lead times: by removing finishing bottlenecks at the glass plant, the new design simplifies the manufacturing process, increases overall supply chain reliability, and reduces delivery lead times for global distributors.

To validate the transition, Luxardo’s glass manufacturer conducted a rigorous life cycle assessment (LCA). The results proved that the new fluted bottle delivers measurable reductions across multiple environmental impact indicators. Specifically, the updated format lowers fossil fuel consumption, decreases total carbon dioxide emissions, and reduces water usage across all format configurations.

Furthermore, the textured look catches the light, elevating the product’s premium appeal for both professional bartenders and at-home mixologists.

“The idea was to refresh the packaging while keeping the bottle immediately recognisable as Luxardo Limoncello,” says Nicolò Luxardo.

“The overall shape and label architecture remains very close to the previous version, but we removed the frosted glass finish and introduced vertical fluting to give the bottle a more premium and textured look. An additional benefit of the redesign is improved packaging efficiency.”

The updated Luxardo Limoncello packs (27% ABV) are rolling out across major UK retailers, independent off-trade specialists, and premium back-bars now.
