Roasted Hojicha Powder expands Japan‑inspired drinking

Clearspring has introduced a new Organic Japanese Hojicha Powder, bringing a roasted, low‑caffeine alternative to the fast‑growing Japanese‑inspired drinks category.
The launch builds on the brand’s strong momentum in matcha and responds to rising consumer interest in warm, comforting, café‑style beverages that can be made easily at home.
The powder is crafted from organically grown green tea leaves that are gently roasted in Japan before being milled into a fine powder. This roasting process gives Hojicha its mellow, nutty profile and naturally reduces caffeine, positioning it as a soothing option for afternoon or evening drinking. It also offers a flavour point distinct from matcha: softer, toastier and with subtle caramel and cocoa notes.
Clearspring said the product meets a clear gap in the market. While Hojicha loose leaf and teabags have long been part of its range, demand for powdered formats has surged as UK coffee shops increasingly feature Hojicha lattes on menus. The powder format allows consumers to recreate those drinks at home, as well as experiment with baking, desserts, smoothies and simple whisk‑and‑sip tea moments.
“We’re beyond excited to introduce a powdered version of our Organic Japanese Hojicha, a delicious, versatile green tea with a wonderfully smooth roasted flavour,” said managing director Maria Dawson. She added that Hojicha has been cherished in Japan for generations and now has “the potential to take off globally just like matcha has.”
Clearspring’s Organic Japanese Hojicha Powder will be available nationwide from July with an RRP of £8.99.
