Sidel has officially introduced EvoDECO Next, its next-generation roll-fed labelling solution designed to give beverage producers a powerful blend of high-performance production, expanded decoration freedom, and sharply reduced material consumption.

By introducing partial labels to a roll-fed platform for the first time, the machine allows brands to use less label material while showcasing more of the bottle itself.

Expanding creative freedom

As PET packaging continues to shift toward enhanced material efficiency and circularity, brands face ongoing pressure to stand out on retail shelves. While lightweighting efforts have traditionally focused on the bottle body, neck, and base, EvoDECO Next extends this optimisation to decoration.

  • Partial label options: moving away from traditional wraparound decoration, the platform supports smaller partial labels—specifically 90° and 180° configurations.
  • Visual identity: by uncovering more of the container shape and transparent PET, producers can make the bottle an intentional part of the design for a premium aesthetic.

Material and financial savings

By using partial labelling, producers can reduce their environmental footprint and operational costs:

  • Surface reduction: depending on the chosen configuration, partial labels reduce label surface area by up to 75% (for the 90° setup) and 50% (for the 180° setup) compared to conventional wraparound labels.
  • High-volume impact: dor high-volume manufacturers, switching from a full wraparound label to a 90° partial label yields impressive results, including a reduction in BOPP consumption by 208.4 tonnes per year; a cut in associated CO₂ emissions by 346 tonnes plus annual raw material savings of approximately €723,000.

This approach aligns with Sidel’s broader JUST label proposition, which merges sustainability, stronger branding, lower total cost of ownership (TCO), and simplified technology.

Seamless production

Rather than adapting an older roll-fed machine for shorter labels, EvoDECO Next was engineered from the ground up as an integrated platform. Its architecture combines cutting-edge engineering components to ensure continuous, reliable performance:

  • Cutter 2.0: a rotary cutting device positioned directly on the transfer drum featuring two faster-cutting blades to effortlessly handle shorter labels at high speeds.
  • Smart buffer: designed to absorb reel changes seamlessly without altering production speed, maintaining a standard film path footprint, and enabling splicing at nominal speed.
  • Smart camera: delivers reference-mark-free label management by eliminating conventional reference marks and quiet zones, boosting flexibility and enabling automated correction, auto-homing, and enhanced diagnostics.

High-speed changeover parts: features a sliding surface and air-blade system that minimizes glue cross-contamination and label stress, extending machine autonomy by up to five times and reducing unplanned stops.

CoboREEL Integration can be paired with Sidel’s automated reel-management solution to cut operator intervention, provide embedded traceability, and support up to 18 reels of autonomy.
