Roncadin kneads room to rise

Italian pizza producer Roncadin is committing more than €80 million to new capacity in Italy and the US as it chases €500 million in turnover within three years, with the UK – at 22% of group sales – a key market for its frozen and chilled pizza and savoury bakery business.
The family-owned group, founded by Dari in Meduno, in the province of Pordenone, and now led by his son Dario as CEO, has unveiled a three-year plan that pairs factory expansion with a stronger sales organisation.
For 2026, Roncadin expects consolidated turnover of around €300 million, the highest in its history. More than 85% of that is generated outside Italy, with the UK and US accounting for 22% and 30% of group turnover respectively.
“With this investment of more than €80 million, the Roncadin family is making a clear commitment to expanding the business in frozen and chilled pizzas and savoury bakery products for international food retailers and the out-of-home market,” says Dario Roncadin, CEO of Roncadin.
Demand outrunning capacity
The principal driver is supply. Demand in Europe has grown very rapidly in recent months, leaving available capacity almost fully utilised. To secure long-term supply for its European partners, Roncadin is investing around €50 million at Meduno, the group’s main site for frozen own-label pizzas for food retailers.
A new production line, occupying a 4,500-square-metre area connected to the existing factory, is due for completion by the end of 2026. Production is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2027, with full capacity expected in April 2027, lifting output to 140 million pizzas a year. A second line planned for early 2028 would take capacity to 160 million. Meduno currently produces 120 million pizzas a year. Once the expansion is fully operational, around 200 new jobs are expected to be created, and the group is also investing in storage capacity.
Chicago gets a second line
In the US, Roncadin is progressing with a €22 million investment in a second production line, fully integrated into its Chicago factory, which opened in late 2024. The aim is to commission the line by September 2027, so that it is fully available from 2028 and total capacity reaches 50 million pizzas a year. North America, the company says, has become a strategic pillar of the group.
RoncaLab chases premium and snacking
RoncaLab, the group company focused on premium and gourmet products, is also expanding. Further investment is planned at Sommacampagna, in the province of Verona, to broaden the range and in particular develop frozen topped pinsa, a segment the group intends to focus on to support growth.
In Caorle, in the province of Venice, where RoncaLab acquired a former pizza-base factory in 2026, a €5 million investment has been launched to develop a standalone snack range of mini pizzas and dough balls in new sizes and formats for retail and foodservice. A new line for mini pizzas measuring 7 to 12 centimetres has already been installed.
A sales heavyweight joins
To support the target, Roncadin has appointed Thomas Schulz, former chief sales officer and executive board member of Freiberger group, as senior commercial advisor from 1 October 2026. “Thomas Schulz brings in-depth knowledge of international markets, extensive experience in own-label pizza and a valuable perspective for the next phase,” says Dario Roncadin.
Power and principles
Sustainability investment continues alongside growth. A new solar photovoltaic system at Meduno, completed in 2026, takes installed capacity at the site above 7 MWp. Electricity generated on site covers more than 30% of the factory’s needs, with the remaining 70% from certified renewable sources. Roncadin has been a Società Benefit since 2021 and a certified B Corp since 2024.
Solid foundations
Roncadin’s plan is notable for its sequencing. Capacity is being added first – in Italy, the US and the premium and snacking segments – with the stated aim of securing supply before volumes are committed. As Dario Roncadin puts it: “We want to grow on solid foundations, build capacity before committing to volumes, and put quality, service, innovation and sustainability at the heart of our business.”
For UK retailers and foodservice operators, Roncadin is a supplier whose UK business represents more than a fifth of group turnover is expanding own-label capacity in Europe while adding pinsa and mini-format options.
