PA keeps costs down at grapes supplier

Due to a supermarket packaging change, grapes supplier Karsten UK was seeking a reliable, high speed heat sealing machine which provided great efficiencies.

Having already sourced its pre-printed film, and to avoid any redesigns and additional costs, PA accommodated Karsten’s existing film and designed the new tool around the existing film format.

The company purchased a twin lane eclipse TL6 heat sealing machine; a high throughput machine capable of sealing up to 200 packs per minute. Its introduction has allowed Karsten to upgrade its packaging from flow wrapping to heat sealed punnets, providing the company with cost and environmental benefits, combined with greater efficiency and minimum downtime.

The new line gives a consistent seal on all packs, and Karsten produces more than 140 packs per minute consistently in production. The company is also now benefiting from PA’s pod tooling system, reducing unplanned downtime by up to 90 per cent.
