Sales of blueberries have surged recently after claims the fruit could help protect the body from a range of illnesses. Blueberry sales surged by £14.7 million
(£21.6m) to £26.2m (£39m) in the 12 months to May 2005, according to market figures.
Ribena is traditionally made with blackcurrants, using 95% of UK crops, although the Blackcurrant Foundation, which represents UK growers, said they would be unaffected by the new blueberry version.
