Chemical fruit cocktail

A massive 61% of all fruit and vegetables tested in the UK recently were found to have pesticide residues on them.

Grapes were particularly contaminated, with 77% having some chemical residues while 11% had pesticides over the legal recommended limit.

The Pesticide Residues Committee (PRC) publishes its results every quarter, although only two reports have been published during the past year. The report released showed a 20% increase on 2006 results. This followed a steady increase over the last four years.

It concluded that if this trend continues, in just two years 100% of non-organic fruit and vegetables will contain chemical residues. In contrast, the organic fruit and vegetables tested showed no artificial residues at all.
