Highland Spring taps tech firm for SKU-level carbon footprinting

Highland Spring Group has signed a three-year partnership with sustainability software firm Altruistiq to implement real-time, SKU-level carbon footprinting across its entire product portfolio.
The move signals a major step in the bottled water producer’s strategy to decarbonise its operations from source to shelf.
The agreement, which runs from June 2025 to June 2028, will see Highland Spring adopt Altruistiq’s Product Footprinting module to calculate cradle-to-gate carbon footprints for hundreds of SKUs. The technology is designed to move beyond one-off assessments, establishing a live emissions baseline and building interactive dashboards that provide greater accuracy and scalability.
By embedding this technology, Highland Spring aims to use dynamic emissions data to directly inform critical business decisions on procurement, packaging, and investment. The detailed insights are also expected to strengthen compliance with forthcoming regulations such as the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS).
Emily Bond, head of sustainability at Highland Spring Group, said the partnership represents a significant advance in the company’s environmental strategy.
“Partnering with Altruistiq represents a significant step forward in our journey to reduce emissions across our entire operations from source to shelf,” she stated. “Their platform enables us to understand emissions at SKU level and apply that knowledge directly to decisions on packaging, procurement and operations. This partnership will support our decarbonisation roadmap while ensuring we meet the needs of our customers, regulators and stakeholders.”
Highland Spring selected Altruistiq for its ability to provide intuitive, ISO-assured footprinting at scale, allowing the business to model the impact of supply chain changes dynamically.
“We are delighted to partner with Highland Spring Group to embed product footprinting into everyday business processes,” added Imogen Hammond-Williams, enterprise account executive at Altruistiq. “Our technology enables organisations to move from one-off assessments to dynamic modelling at scale, giving them the tools to meet their Net Zero targets while maintaining commercial agility.”
The deal includes implementation services, data migration, and staff training, with a strategic review planned for 2026 to identify further opportunities for collaboration.
