Tropicana bridges the gap between juice and hydration

Tropicana is another entrant in the functional hydration space with the launch of Tropicana Hydrate+.
The new range represents an evolution for the brand, blending its classic fruit expertise with the electrolyte-boosting properties typically found in sports and wellness waters.
The rollout comes as the functional category continues to see growth, with Tropicana citing a 31% increase in functional drink sales since 2022 and a 1,000% rise in hydration-related online searches over the last few years.
Tropicana Hydrate+ is designed as a “natural pick-me-up” for consumers who want the benefits of a sports drink without the artificial ingredients or medicinal taste. The range features two core flavours:
- Pineapple with Coconut Water
- Mango with Coconut Water
Both variants are formulated with a base of coconut water and real fruit juice, fortified with magnesium — specifically included to help maintain electrolyte balance — and a cocktail of five essential vitamins (B1, B2, B6, C, and E).
While many functional waters on the market focus on stripping back ingredients, Tropicana is doubling down on flavour.
“Our research consistently shows that great taste still comes first for consumers,” said Liz Ashdown, marketing director at Tropicana Brands Group. “With 79 years of fruit-blending expertise, Tropicana is perfectly placed to deliver both. Hydrate+ builds on what people already love about Tropicana, combining delicious fruit with functional hydration.”
The brand is targeting a specific consumer insight: research indicates that more than a quarter of soft drinks are now chosen primarily for hydration, yet shoppers are often reluctant to switch from their trusted juice brands to “thinner” tasting functional waters.
Tropicana Hydrate+ is launching initially in 850ml take-home cartons (RRP £3.50), aimed at the family breakfast table and the “work-from-home” wellness crowd. Recognising the demand for on-the-go functionality, the company has confirmed that a 300ml single-serve bottle will join the line-up later this year.
The range is currently rolling out across major UK retailers, including Asda.
