global corporate venturing initiative driving rigid packaging innovation and scaling

Amcor has launched an international call for high-growth start-ups to participate in its latest corporate venturing initiative.

Orchestrated by the company’s Corporate Venturing & Open Innovation team, the Amcor Lift-Off—Rigids challenge targets breakthrough technologies capable of transforming rigid containers and adjacent systems. The mechanism provides a direct, scalable pipeline for emerging businesses to commercialise their solutions. By linking agile start-ups with an industrial manufacturing giant, the initiative accelerates the development of next-generation consumer packaging.

Targeting commercial-ready circular solutions

Amcor is strictly seeking companies whose technologies have advanced past the initial laboratory phase. Eligible applicants must demonstrate proven viability beyond early pilot testing and showcase clear, long-term commercial potential. The programme focuses entirely on solutions that can improve performance, enable circularity, enhance the consumer experience, or unlock new business models. This strict entry standard ensures that selected innovations can be rapidly scaled across the global food, beverage, and personal care supply chains.

Exploring ten critical technology priorities

The scope of the challenge encompasses ten vital technological focus areas that represent the future of industrial rigid packaging. Start-ups are invited to submit solutions spanning smart packaging infrastructure and advanced shelf-life indicators that alert consumers to food spoilage. The evaluation  covers:

  • Shelf-life indicators
  • Injection moulding processes and platforms
  • Recyclable barrier technologies
  • Fibre-based packaging
  • Dispenser and applicator systems
  • Retort and pasteurisation solutions
  • Smart packaging
  • Rigid and flexible hybrid systems (including refill and reuse models)
  • Recycling, sorting and decontamination technologies
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning applications

Navigating the structured scaling pipeline

The selection process follows a rapid, three-phase competitive timeline designed to quickly vet and onboard high-potential partners. Submissions remain open internationally until June 8, 2026, followed by an intensive internal screening and feedback window running through June 20, 2026.

The process culminates in a highly anticipated Virtual Pitch Day on June 30, 2026, where short-listed founders will present directly to executive leadership. Moving forward, successful teams will secure the opportunity to structure commercial partnerships, secure corporate venture funding, and execute high-volume pilot projects.

Scaling differentiated business models

The initiative builds directly upon previous successful iterations of the Lift-Off programme, which successfully yielded commercial partnerships across advanced materials and recycling infrastructure. By combining corporate capital with a global manufacturing footprint and extensive R&D resources, the supplier offers a growth catalyst for modern packaging disruptors.
