Canovation Canpack collaboration has announced CanReseal commercial launch as a resealable solution for aluminium cans

Packaging pioneer Canovation and global packaging manufacturer Canpack have formalised a strategic collaboration to accelerate the CanReseal technology toward commercial readiness and pilot-scale deployment.

The joint effort aims to transition the proprietary resealable aluminium can-end system from late-stage development into broader commercial applications across the global beverage supply chain.

By aligning Canovation’s sustainable container technology with Canpack’s vast manufacturing knowledge and international industry reach, the companies are establishing the technical foundation required for future market introduction.

Bridging the gap to commercial scale

Under the new agreement, both entities will collaborate to finalise the remaining development phases required for pilot-line implementation. This phase is critical for bridging the gap between successful technology validation and real-world, high-volume production.

To ensure seamless integration, the initiative continues to be supported by Canovation’s long-standing partner, Stolle Machinery Company. Stolle is providing the vital engineering, tooling, and machinery support required to adapt the new resealable ends to existing, highly optimised can-making infrastructure.

As consumer demand shifts toward sustainable convenience, this commercial milestone delivers distinct operational and environmental advantages to beverage brands:

  • Infrastructure compatibility: CanReseal is engineered to leverage established, decades-old can manufacturing and filling lines, allowing brands to adopt resealability without costly infrastructure overhauls.

  • Plastic reduction alternatives: The all-aluminium system offers a highly circular alternative to single-use plastic bottles and closures, supporting corporate sustainability and circular economy initiatives.

  • Enhanced consumer portability: the design combines the traditional benefits of a standard beverage can with the twist-off, twist-on convenience and portability of a bottle.

Aligning innovation with global manufacturing

The development of the system has already garnered significant industry backing, including participation in the global 100+ Accelerator programme and engagements with the Remade Institute. With pilot operations on the horizon, Canovation is actively engaging financial and strategic partners to fund the next phase of deployment.

“This collaboration allows us to align closely with a global manufacturing leader as we prepare for pilot production and commercialisation,” said Jeff Grajewski, chief operating officer of Canovation.

Fabio Hees, group commercial officer at Canpack, added: “This relationship reflects our continued commitment to advancing innovative and sustainable packaging technologies. We look forward to working with Canovation to prepare CanReseal for commercialisation.”

The companies expect to conclude their near-term development goals shortly, establishing a firm foundation for upcoming commercial rollouts across the beverage sector.
