MM Packaging is sharpening its long‑term workforce strategy with renewed investment in apprenticeships, opening applications for a fresh intake across engineering, finance, operations and estimating.

The move reinforces the company’s commitment to building a resilient talent pipeline at a time when packaging and manufacturing businesses continue to navigate sector‑wide recruitment pressures.

Strengthening capability through structured development

MM Packaging Deeside’s apprenticeship scheme blends hands‑on operational experience with formal learning, giving participants the chance to earn recognised qualifications while developing practical skills alongside experienced colleagues. Supported by the BPIF, the three‑year manufacturing pathway leads to a nationally recognised Level 3 NVQ and includes First Aid, Fire Marshal and IOSH Managing Safely training — building a rounded foundation for long‑term careers in manufacturing and packaging.

David Whitworth, managing director at MM Packaging Deeside, said: “Some of the most talented people in our business started their careers as apprentices, so we know first‑hand the impact the programme can have.”

He added: “For us, an apprenticeship is about much more than gaining a qualification. It’s about giving people the opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues, develop real‑world skills and discover where their strengths lie.”

Proven success and growing momentum

The company’s investment is already paying dividends: nine recent apprentices have progressed into ongoing employment, continuing their development within the business. This retention underscores the strategic value of apprenticeships in strengthening workforce continuity and supporting operational excellence.

A sector responding to long‑term challenges

Recruitment and skills development remain critical issues across the packaging supply chain. MM Packaging’s continued investment signals confidence in the next generation of talent and a commitment to supporting local communities with accessible, high‑quality career pathways.

David Whitworth emphasised the importance of attracting motivated individuals: “We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated people who are eager to learn and develop, and in return we offer the training, support and hands‑on experience needed to build a successful long‑term career.”
