Chef-made meal company Frive has launched Lean Meals, a new range of lighter portions designed to meet demand for calorie-conscious choices and personalised nutrition.
The new category puts a lighter spin on customer favourites. Every dish is under 500 calories, packs up to 53g of protein, and features 45% fewer carbohydrates alongside 25% less sugar — using naturally occurring sugars from 100% whole food ingredients instead.
GLP-1 growth fuelling shift in eating habits
The launch directly responds to shifting consumer appetites driven by the rise of GLP-1 weight-loss medications. In the UK, 7% of the population (8.25 million people) have used, currently use, or are considering using the medication.
This trend is rapidly reshaping customer expectations around portion sizes and balanced nutrition around surging interest: Frive recorded a massive 21,860% year-on- year increase (2025 vs 2026) in signing-up customers citing GLP-1 use as an interest or goal.
Shifting spend patterns show two-fifths of GLP-1 users spend more on nutrition, fitness, and confidence products, while 70% spend less on snacks, confectionery, and crisps.
“The rise of GLP-1 is changing the way people think about food, from appetite and portion size to what they want from every meal,” says Caryn McLaren, head of NPD at Frive. “Lean Meals give our customers a lighter option without asking them to compromise on nutrients and vitamins, the best quality ingredients and delicious tasting meals.”
Menu highlights & uncompromising ingredients
Rather than positioning the range as traditional diet food, Frive has reformulated established customer favourites using seasonal British produce, natural ingredients, and zero ultra-processed foods. Launch week dishes include:
- Lean Satay Chicken: succulent marinated chicken in aromatic spices with fried rice and crunchy peppers.
- Lean Pesto Seabass: pan-seared fillet over crispy roasted potatoes, served with cherry tomatoes and pepper salsa.
- Lean Prawn Penang Curry: served on a bed of fragrant Jasmine rice and crunchy green beans.
- Award-Winners: Great Taste Award winners Harissa Lamb Meatballs and King Prawn Korma.
The range follows Frive’s recent expansion into functional juices and vitamin-enhanced shots.
