Europlant solidifies UK footprint with subsidiary and appointment

Europlant has significantly reinforced its long-term commitment to the British agricultural sector with the launch of its dedicated new subsidiary, Europlant Potatoes UK Ltd.
The move consolidates the group’s market activities across the country, paving the way for expanded direct marketing of innovative potato varieties and closer collaboration with local growers, packers, and industry partners.
To spearhead this next phase of growth, seasoned fresh produce and potato industry executive James Paice has been appointed as managing director of the new UK entity.
Structure for a key market
The establishment of a dedicated British subsidiary underscores Europlant’s confidence in the UK potato sector’s considerable potential. By creating a clear local operational framework, the company aims to offer more targeted, localised support across all market segments — from fresh consumption to processing.
Christian Krahn, sales manager export at Europlant, stressed the foundational pillars driving the expansion: “The United Kingdom is an important market for Europlant with considerable potential. By establishing this new company, we are creating a clear local structure that will enable us to support our customers and partners for all market segments more effectively. Our core strengths remain unchanged: high-performing varieties, consistent quality and reliable service.”
Leadership & inroads
Stepping into the role of managing director, James Paice brings extensive senior leadership experience across the British fresh produce and potato sectors. His familiarity with domestic market requirements is expected to accelerate the rollout of Europlant’s high-performance, resilient breeding portfolio to UK growers.
Commenting on his new appointment and the subsidiary’s strategic roadmap, James Paice stated: “Europlant combines decades of experience in potato breeding with an extensive international network and a diverse portfolio of varieties. I look forward to building on this expertise for the British market together with our partners, strengthening existing business relationships and exploring new market opportunities.”
Market inroads and future focus
The newly formed Europlant Potatoes UK Ltd will concentrate on several key areas to deepen its market penetration:
- Variety introduction: bringing advanced, high-yielding, and climate-resilient potato varieties directly to British soil.
- Licensing expansion: growing the company’s licensing operations in collaboration with local growers and supply chain stakeholders.
- Stakeholder integration: strengthening cooperative networks between local producers, packers, and commercial customers.
As the business rolls out its new structure, Europlant plans to showcase its expanded capabilities and engage directly with the agricultural community at upcoming industry showcases, including the Europlant Open Days and the British Potato Conference.
