A fair few of us have eaten paella and drunk sangria. But many more know there is much more to Spanish food and wine. I’ll find out how much tomorrow when I attend the Spanish food event TASTE SPAIN LONDON 2025.

Spain is a paradise for food lovers, offering a diverse culinary landscape that ranges from rustic village dishes to sophisticated urban gastronomy. Traditional Spanish food is uncomplicated, flavourful, and based on the freshest regional ingredients made available by Spain’s diverse geography. Spanish cuisine is characterised by its use of fresh, high-quality ingredients and traditional cooking techniques. Key components include olive oil, garlic, fresh herbs, and locally sourced produce. Most notably, Spanish cuisine reflects its diverse regions, each contributing unique ingredients and cooking methods to the rich tapestry of national dishes.

Spain is the second most visited country globally. Everything from the natural wonders and modern attractions to the food, drinks, and wine make for a wholesome experience. I expect to learn a tremendous amount at this event as it provides an excellent opportunity to gain a deeper insight into Spain’s most iconic products. It is also a great occasion to explore and familiarise yourself with the flavours, quality and authenticity of the Spanish pantry.

This activity is part of the #SpainFoodNation campaign, organized by Foods and Wines from Spain and Alimentos de España through a collaboration agreement between ICEX and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food for promoting Spanish food, wines and other beverages in strategic markets.

Spain is a major supplier of food to the UK, particularly fresh produce. In 2024, Spanish food and drink exports to the UK reached a record €5.1 billion, making the UK Spain’s fifth largest non-EU export market, surpassing the US. Key exports include fruits, vegetables, wine, olive oil, and pork products. The UK is heavily reliant on Spain for fresh produce, with nearly a quarter of its vegetable imports originating there, including 80% of its lettuce.

There is no better feeling in the world than tickling your taste buds with delicious food. I intend to immerse myself in an engaging and dynamic day designed to create a meeting place and provide the appropriate framework for Spanish exhibitors that are looking to enter or expand their distribution in the UK to showcase their products and establish contacts with importers/distributors.

If I was to choose to sail in Spain, I know I would be amazed by world-famous Spanish cuisine. Tomorrow will feature some dishes that I hope will definitely end up on UK shores.
