Environmental award for frozen food firm Ardo

Slashing its carbon footprint and recycling waste water have helped earn Ardo UK a prestigious business award.

The Kent-based frozen fruit and vegetable firm won the Business Commitment to the Environment category in the Kent Excellence in Business Awards.

The judges said that Ardo UK had ‘set a benchmark for other manufacturers’ and had ‘made the environment a key element of its strategy’.

They commended the company for cutting its carbon footprint by 45 per cent since 2007 and installing a treatment plant that returned water used during the manufacturing process back to the mains as potable water. The water treatment plant itself is partly powered by waste heat from the cold store.

“We aim to operate to the highest possible standards across all aspects of our business,” says Ardo UK managing director Stephen Waugh. “We are delighted to have won this award and we will continue to invest time and money into ensuring that we are as environmentally efficient as possible.”
