Viscose Closures reports unprecedented demand for tamper evidence packaging solutions

Viscose Closures, a Swansea-based manufacturer of caps, closures and security seals, is leading the emerging ‘new normal’ in tamper evidence packaging.

The company, based at Swansea Enterprise Park, provides environmentally friendly tamper evidence solutions, and has reported experiencing unprecedented demand for these products as clients show an increasing need for security and sustainability during the coronavirus pandemic.

Viscose reports that its compostable and biodegradable seal solutions are particularly sought after as producers, retailers and consumers balance the requirements of security and environmental impact. Evolving trends indicate that market leaders aim to phase out single use plastics in the ‘new normal’, fuelling a green recovery following the pandemic.

Whilst tamper evidence has been mandatory in several sectors, current trends suggest this is becoming more consumer led. Previously, regulators have taken the lead when it comes to driving product safety, however, this is changing. The current situation has given engaged consumers a heightened desire to guarantee product security through the protection that tamper evidence seals provide.

Viscose Closures also reports increased demand for its biodegradable PLA shrink sleeves, commonly used as tamper evidence and promotional packaging in the food, drink and pharmaceutical sectors.

The manufacturer has continued to operate as a vital part of the supply chain during the nationwide lockdown by implementing effective remote working strategies and safe, socially distanced production practices to ensure their products can be manufactured quickly without affecting quality.

Viscose Closures CEO, Vince Minchella, said: “I am proud that we continue to operate as part of the supply chain to critical sectors. We have seen a major surge in demand to supply cellulose and film tamper evident bands across the world. These crucial security seals are being applied to food and drink as well as medical gas canisters, antiseptic gels, eye drops, lab cultures, and numerous other products that need identification and protection.

“The reputational and business damage of contaminated products mean that proactive businesses are embracing tamper evidence to differentiate from their competitors, and we are here to provide those solutions with the added benefit of sustainability.”

Established more than 125 years ago, Viscose Closures is one of the leading UK players in the closure and tamper evident packaging market. The company has been based in Swansea for almost 70 years and has a strong reputation in the food, drink, pharmaceutical and industrial gas sectors.
