Valeo Snackfoods develops range of non-HFSS SKUs

Valeo Snackfoods has announced it is developing a range of non-HFSS snacks, due to launch later this year.

The business has confirmed that its Metcalfe’s brand is lightly adjusting its Sea Salt, Cinema Sweet and Sweet n Salt popcorn to ensure they are compliant with incoming HFSS regulation. All three redeveloped products are set to hit shelves this summer.

Valeo Snackfoods is also adapting its range of Manomasa tortilla chips to make the products HFSS compliant. The redeveloped Manomasa products will launch later this year.

The move follows the recent announcement from Valeo Snackfoods that its Kettle brand has launched a range of non-HFSS bread snacks: Kettle Bread Bites.

Bread Bites are available in three flavours: Focaccia Bites with Sea Salt, Rosemary & Extra Virgin Olive Oil; Naan Bites with Spiced Onion Bhaji, Chilli & Toasted Onion; and Sourdough Bites with Parmigiano Reggiano & Balsamic Vinegar of Modena.

They will be stocked in Morrisons from 28 March followed by Tesco on 11 April, with a RSP of £2.09/120g.

Russell Tanner, marketing director at Valeo Snackfoods, said: “At Valeo Snackfoods, we are committed to providing a fantastic selection of snacks for a whole range of occasions and consumers. We know that consumers are increasingly looking for healthier snacking options, as 2/3 of consumers agree that they try to limit the amount of fat, salt or sugar in their diet, but we also know that they don’t want to compromise on taste or flavour.

“That is why we’re committed to carefully redeveloping some of our much-loved snacks to create HFSS compliant products which deliver the same great taste and texture experience that they always have. By retaining the fantastic product experience consumers have come to expect, while tweaking our recipes to make them healthier, we will be offering retailers the products they need to meet demand for delicious, healthy snacks.

“We’ve already achieved this with our brilliant new Kettle Bread Bites and we’re confident that our redeveloped Metcalfe’s popcorn and Manomasa tortilla chips ranges will follow in the same vein when they hit stores later this year.”

HFSS refers to foods and drinks that are high in fat, sugar and salt. The promotion of HFSS products by retailers will be restricted from October 2022 as part of legislation being introduced across the food and drink industry in an effort to improve the nation’s health.
