Borough Broth Company, the British organic bone broth brand, has secured a £7.5 million investment from consumer specialist investor Piper, marking a pivotal moment in its mission to make sustainable, nutrient-rich food mainstream.

The funding represents the company’s first institutional backing and will underpin its next phase of expansion.

Founded in 2015 by Ros Heathcote with just £6,000 borrowed from a friend, Borough Broth has grown from a small kitchen operation into one of the UK’s fastest-growing organic, B Corp–certified brands. The business has achieved annualised revenues of around £11 million and is forecasting to exceed £20 million by 2026.

A key element of the investment is the relocation to a new West London manufacturing facility, which will more than double current production capacity. This move is designed to meet rising consumer demand and support the company’s growing retail footprint, which now includes listings in Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Ocado and Waitrose.

The expansion will also allow Borough Broth to strengthen its senior leadership team and accelerate innovation across adjacent organic categories such as soups, stocks and gravies. By broadening its product range, the company aims to cement its position as a category-defining brand in naturally healthy, sustainable and convenient food.

Borough Broth’s origins lie in reclaiming bones from the meat industry that would otherwise be wasted or used for pet food, transforming them into nourishing bone broth. This circular approach to food production has become a hallmark of the brand, which is guided by principles of organic sourcing, regenerative practices and high animal welfare standards.

Ros Heathcote, founder and CEO, said the partnership with Piper validates the company’s disciplined growth journey.

“We have built Borough Broth with great care, raising just £783,000 in angel investment to reach this point. Partnering with Piper means we can bring our mission to even more people while staying true to our principles,” she said.

Piper Partner Rory Gibbs highlighted the brand’s unique positioning. “Borough Broth is perfectly placed at the intersection of taste, health, sustainability and convenience. Ros has built a truly special brand with exceptional products and purpose at its heart. We see huge potential to grow Borough Broth into a household name,” he said.

The company’s retail presence has expanded rapidly in the past year, with new national listings and product launches. Sainsbury’s recently added three new lines – Organic Grass-Fed Beef Bone Broth, Organic Free-Range Chicken Pho and Sustainably-Caught Wild Fish Bone Broth – to its shelves. Borough Broth’s award-winning range, including chicken and beef broths, Tonkotsu Ramen and Pho, has earned nine Great Taste Awards, further strengthening its reputation for quality.

With Piper’s investment, Borough Broth is poised to transition from a challenger brand into a mainstream leader.

The funding provides the scale, expertise and retail reach needed to accelerate growth while reinforcing its sustainability mission. For consumers increasingly seeking healthy, convenient and environmentally responsible food, Borough Broth’s next chapter could see it become a household name.
