Heineken UK challenges premium tier with ‘Inch’s Reserve’

Heineken UK has announced the launch of Inch’s Reserve, a new premium apple cider designed to bridge the gap between mainstream accessibility and artisanal quality. The release marks the first major line extension for the Inch’s brand since its record-breaking debut in 2021.
Crafted at the Hereford Little Apple Mill, Inch’s Reserve is positioned as a more “elevated” alternative to the core range. It is made using a blend of 100% British bittersweet apples, resulting in a deeper, more structured flavour profile with a slightly higher ABV of 4.8%.
The launch is a strategic move to capitalise on the premiumisation trend currently sweeping the cider category. While the core Inch’s Cider has successfully captured younger legal-drinking-age consumers through its sustainability credentials, Inch’s Reserve targets those looking for a more sophisticated, food-friendly option.
“We’ve seen a clear shift in the market where consumers are looking for more character and depth from their cider, but they still want the brand to be recognisable and trusted,” said Rachel Holms, cider brand director at Heineken UK. “Inch’s Reserve offers that perfect balance — it’s a premium, structured liquid that remains incredibly refreshing and accessible.”
In keeping with the brand’s “Nature Knows Best” ethos, Inch’s Reserve maintains a strong focus on sustainability. The apples are sourced from within 40 miles of the Hereford mill, and the production process remains zero-waste to landfill.
The launch offers a high-value opportunity to trade shoppers up from mainstream draught or bottled ciders. The packaging reflects this premium positioning with a more refined label design featuring metallic accents, intended to provide high shelf-standout in the premium bottled cider aisle.
The rollout will be supported by a dedicated marketing push. Inch’s Reserve is rolling out nationwide across major supermarkets and independent retailers in 500ml glass bottles. A selective on-trade launch on draught is expected to follow, targeting premium pubs and bars looking to upgrade their cider portfolio for the summer season.
