Domino’s multi-lane egg pack traverser cracks high-speed coding

Domino Printing Sciences (Domino) has launched a dedicated egg pack printing traverser (EPPT), a high-speed coding solution designed to bring “egg-to-pallet” traceability to the most demanding multi-lane production environments.
The EPPT integrates Domino’s Gx-Series thermal inkjet (TIJ) printers with a robust traverser system, specifically engineered to provide stable, high-resolution coding across diverse packaging materials, including moulded fibre, pre-labelled fibre, and rigid plastic.
Designed to act as a natural extension of existing workflows, the EPPT offers seamless integration with industry-standard graders, including the Moba Omnia and Sanovo GraderPro.
In live production trials, the Gx350i-based system demonstrated the ability to deliver high-resolution codes at speeds exceeding 50 packs per minute. This matches the throughput of the world’s most advanced grading systems, with the mechanical capacity to scale as production speeds evolve.
By utilising cartridge-based TIJ technology rather than traditional print-and-apply labelling, the EPPT significantly reduces operational waste. It eliminates the need for silicone backing paper and physical labels, offering a lower-maintenance and more sustainable alternative for high-volume producers.
Key technical features include:
- Rapid installation: the system can be installed or removed in less than a minute, allowing operators to quickly clear the line for wet cleaning with minimal downtime.
- Inline verification: the EPPT supports seamless connection to smart vision systems, enabling automatic detection and removal of unprinted or defective packs before they reach dispatch.
- GS1 compliance: the system is optimised for retailer-compliant QR codes powered by GS1, ensuring full supply chain transparency.
The launch builds on Domino’s established reputation in the sector, following successful deployments with major producers like Grupo CAC. By providing a single, unified platform that handles various pack types, the EPPT allows producers to consolidate their print technologies and reduce the complexity of their coding operations.
Egg producers are looking to streamline operations while improving print quality at speed, the company stated. The EPPT offers a future-proof platform that reduces the likelihood of coding errors and mechanical servicing, ensuring maximum uptime for high-pressure production lines.
