Domino Printing Sciences has strengthened its long‑standing partnership with Erdinger by installing its new Dx1060i 100W CO₂ laser coder across the brewery’s high‑speed production lines — marking a significant step forward in coding performance for one of the world’s most demanding beverage environments.

Erdinger, the world’s largest wheat beer brewery, fills up to 165,000 bottles per hour at its site in Erding, Bavaria. The business has relied on Domino’s laser technology for more than 30 years to apply production and traceability codes to its metallised beer labels. But rising export requirements and the shift from two‑line to three‑line codes prompted the need for a more powerful, future‑ready solution.

Each of Erdinger’s filling lines runs at speeds of up to 60,000 bottles per hour, with coding controlled centrally through an automated ERP system. The move to Domino’s new Dx1060i — part of the company’s next‑generation i‑Techx laser platform — provides the higher energy output and beam precision required for complex, high‑density codes on reflective label surfaces.

Erdinger’s maintenance specialist praised the seamless integration: “Replacing the printer on the production line was truly plug‑and‑play. Domino managed the entire ERP integration, and their remote diagnostics team resolved issues before they became problems.”

The brewery reports that the new coder has delivered sharper, more durable codes, while reducing waste to “near zero” — a key advantage in an environment where downtime and scrap can quickly impact margins.

With sustainability targets tightening across the beverage sector, Domino says the Dx1060i helps manufacturers cut waste, improve line efficiency and maintain consistent code quality without the consumables associated with inkjet systems.

Frauke Schroeder, senior product manager – laser at Domino, said: “Integrating the Dx1060i into such a high‑speed, highly automated environment demonstrates the system’s capability at scale. We’re proud to support Erdinger as they continue to raise the bar for quality and efficiency.”

Following the successful deployment, Erdinger is now exploring opportunities to roll out the Dx1060i across additional lines. The brewery sees the system as a key enabler for meeting future coding and compliance requirements as export markets evolve.
