PPG’s regulatory-ready coatings support bisphenol-free transition

PPG brought its complete portfolio of non-intent bisphenol (BPA-NI) metal packaging solutions to METPACK 2026, to position itself to help beverage and food manufacturers navigate tightening global food contact regulations.
Exhibiting in Hall 3 (Stand 3D62), the company showcased advanced coatings designed to protect product integrity and maintain manufacturing efficiency while eliminating bisphenols, PFAS, and PVC from the supply chain.
The showcase comes at a critical time for the packaging sector, as brand owners face mounting regulatory pressure to move away from traditional epoxy-based can linings without sacrificing line speed or shelf life.
PPG’s updated portfolio targets the distinct performance, safety, and aesthetic requirements of the beverage, food, and personal care markets:
- Beverage: high-performance easy-open ends (EOEs). To protect beverage cans from top to bottom, inside and out, PPG is highlighting its established internal spray solution, PPG Innovel PRO PPG2012, alongside the PPG iSense overvarnish series. Crucially, the company has expanded its easy-open end capabilities with two new additions:
- PPG Innovel PRO PPG2489: A BPA-NI and PFAS-NI internal lid coating designed to withstand high-speed stamping, high temperatures, and intense pressures. When applied at lower film weights, it has the potential to reduce carbon emissions by up to 20% compared to legacy coatings.
PPG iSense PPG5018: A highly robust external coating formulated for rapid line speeds, available in clear and gold finishes.
- Food: A U.S. industry-first for pet food cans. In the food processing segment, PPG is demonstrating its PPG Nutrishield and PPG iSense interior and exterior coating ranges, compatible with both steel and aluminium formats. A major highlight is the newly launched PPG Nutrishield MAX PPG7590, a white interior coating optimised for aluminium draw-redraw (DRD) cans and easy-open ends containing wet pet food. The product is the first single-component, polyvinyl chloride non-intent (PVC-NI) coil coating in the United States.
By delivering a ready-to-use, single-component system that requires no pre-mixing, the coating helps manufacturers eliminate downtime and changeover complexity; significantly reduce material waste on the line; and maintain superior stain resistance against challenging wet ingredients (such as chicken, turkey, and fish).
Drinks: expanding aluminium bottles. Building on the legacy of its PPG Hoba and PPG iSense lines for monobloc aerosols, bottles, and tubes, PPG has introduced PPG Hoba PRO PPG2848. This enhanced coating is specifically engineered to meet the surging consumer and regulatory demand for packaging water, wine, and carbonated drinks in premium, reusable aluminium bottles while maintaining strict BPA-NI and PFAS-NI compliance.
To support manufacturers through these complex material transitions, PPG has launched its new customer-centric campaign: “Our greatest commitment of all, YOU.” Recognising the highly dynamic regulatory shifts and supply chain challenges of recent years, the campaign emphasises PPG’s global scale, technical support network, and local production capabilities across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. This footprint ensures that food and beverage manufacturers can confidently plan their regulatory transitions with a secure, localized supply chain.
