GEA has unveiled its new KOB high-pressure homogeniser series, a cost-efficient line engineered specifically to give small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) access to industrial-grade processing performance without the prohibitive capital expenditure typically associated with high-end machinery.

Reaching pressures up to 400 bar, the series—which includes models 11, 22, 45, and 90 — offers a compact, hygienic, and highly flexible solution for mid-scale food, beverage, dairy, and plant-based processing lines, as well as spray-dryer feeding applications.

For smaller producers looking to scale up or diversify their product lines, the KOB series addresses several critical operational hurdles:

Lowers capital investment

Advanced homogenisation technology has historically been financially out of reach for smaller production plants. GEA’s KOB series disrupts this by utilizing an economical base configuration with competitively priced, wear-resistant components ideal for standard, non-abrasive applications. For SMEs handling more demanding or abrasive formulations, optional high-efficiency valves and maximum wear-resistant materials can be added. This modular approach allows growing brands to invest strictly in the capability they need today, with the option to upgrade specifications as their product portfolio expands.

Shrinks footprint and simplifies retrofitting

SMEs frequently operate within tight spatial constraints and legacy factory layouts. The KOB series features a highly compact architecture enabled by an optimised crankcase and gear-reducer design.

Because the drive compartment is engineered to require neither complex oil cooling systems nor forced-air ventilation, the overall machine relies on fewer auxiliary components. This minimal footprint allows growing processors to seamlessly swap out legacy homogenisers or insert a new KOB unit into an existing line without undergoing costly, disruptive structural modifications to the factory floor.

Cuts utility demands and maintenance overhead

Operational profitability for smaller brands relies heavily on minimising ongoing utility and maintenance costs. The mechanical construction of the KOB series delivers high volumetric efficiency with minimal heat and vibration.

By utilising newly engineered poppet-type pumping valves, the system stabilises product flow and significantly reduces cavitation and noise levels on the factory floor. Together, these design enhancements extend component life, reduce energy consumption, and simplify routine maintenance access—drastically reducing unexpected downtime for smaller teams.

Delivers high-tier hygiene and modular automation

Despite its cost-effective positioning, the KOB series makes no compromises on food safety or process control. Every model is fully CIP (clean-in-place) and SIP (sterilisation-in-Place) capable, with configurations available to meet stringent 3-A sanitary standards and options for steamable full-stroke barrier chambers for aseptic processing.

Furthermore, the series supports scalable automation levels, ranging from a basic motor-starter solution up to full PLC/HMI control and SCADA integration. This digital modularity ensures that as an SME advances its digital maturity and automation infrastructure, the KOB homogeniser can be integrated directly into plant-wide automation systems.
