Magic has ordered a new food pad eXcelle production line from Andritz to expand its absorbent materials manufacturing capability in Oleggio, Italy.

The line – equipped with state‑of‑the‑art airlaid forming technology – is scheduled for commissioning in Q1 2027 and was booked in Andritz’s Q3 2025 order intake.

Airlaid forming is central to Magic’s investment. The integrated solution developed by Andritz Diatec and Andritz Dan‑Web enhances pad performance by creating a uniform, highly absorbent fibre matrix. For food and drink producers, this translates into:

• Superior absorption — Airlaid pads rapidly capture excess fluids from meat, fish and fruit, improving pack hygiene.
• High retention — the structure locks moisture in place, reducing leakage risks across chilled supply chains.
• Fast uptake — the open, porous web accelerates fluid intake, supporting product freshness.
• Low rewetting — pads maintain a dry surface, improving consumer perception and reducing contamination concerns.
• Biodegradable performance — Magic’s proprietary superabsorbent biodegradable powder, combined with airlaid technology, enables next‑generation sustainable pads.

CEO Mauro Giani said the project is “of strategic importance”, enabling the company to expand capacity and strengthen its market position. Andritz’s expertise in hygiene converting and airlaid systems was a decisive factor.

Leonardo Poggiogalle, global sales director at Andritz Diatec, noted that the order validates the company’s strategy of offering versatile, high‑performance line configurations. The integrated structure of Andritz Nonwoven & Textile supports seamless technology sharing across its centres of excellence.
